Should You Put A Projector In Your Airbnb?

Setting the Scene for a Unique Experience

When designing your rental space, consider the unique experiences you can offer. Naturally, if you don’t have the wall space, a projector setup may not be an option. However, remember that guests seek more than just a place to sleep and eat; they’re looking for a memorable experience. While anyone can provide luxurious bedding, plush towels, or a high-end coffee maker, those amenities are often expected. To truly stand out, aim to create a “wow factor” that makes your property unforgettable. This doesn’t have to break the bank—sometimes, simple additions like a projector can make all the difference.

Who Should Consider a Projector?

Personally, I’m a huge fan of projectors. They offer an impressive cinematic experience that’s hard to match, unless you’re considering something as extravagant as Samsung’s “The Wall,” which costs around $200,000. We’ve installed projectors in two of our units, and guests absolutely love them. Despite lacking other luxurious features like spacious yards or ultra-modern interiors, these units still deliver a cozy, “home away from home” atmosphere. In one unit, we used a 100-inch Xiaomi ultra short-throw projector, offering a sleek, easy-to-use setup with built-in Android functionality. Our other setup is even more budget-friendly yet impactful: for around $450, we equipped the unit with a 15-inch screen and an Epson laser 4K projector. This setup is a favorite among guests, proving that you don’t need a high-cost investment to make a big impact.

The ideal hosts for a projector setup are those who want to elevate the guest experience for a fraction of the price of a typical TV. Paired with a cozy, deep-seated couch, a projector creates a welcoming and memorable entertainment space that guests will book again and again. The rave reviews and repeat guests we receive are a testament to its appeal.

Best Budget Projector Setup

Our previous go-to was the Xiaomi ultra short-throw projector, which offered ease of setup and functionality with its Android OS. Recently, however, a new standout has emerged: the Epson EF-100 mini laser projector. Capable of projecting up to a 150-inch 4K image, this projector can be found refurbished for around $300, making it a phenomenal value. Paired with a high-quality 155-inch screen from Vevor ($182), the entire setup costs just over $450. Despite my usual skepticism about budget brands, the Vevor screen exceeded expectations, providing excellent image quality and durability. This setup offers guests an immersive experience no TV could match.

Pros & Cons

There are some pros and cons to consider. Projectors can be more challenging in rooms with a lot of natural light, as they may struggle to produce clear images during the day. While TVs offer consistently bright and crisp displays, projectors excel in darker settings where they can deliver a cinema-like experience. Additionally, projectors may require occasional adjustments for alignment if bumped or moved. While a bit more maintenance may be involved, the trade-off is a unique entertainment experience that goes beyond a standard TV setup.

Conclusion

If you’re looking to elevate your rental space and provide guests with an unforgettable experience, consider adding a projector. With the right setup, even a small investment can make a lasting impression, helping your property stand out and fostering a loyal, returning guest base. This relatively simple addition could be the key to transforming your space into one that guests rave about long after they’ve checked out.
